Univest Bank and Trust Co. recently announced the appointment of Robert Ahrens as senior vice president and commercial banking team leader. In his role, Ahrens will lead a team of commercial banking relationship managers as they help meet the financing needs of businesses in the greater Philadelphia area. He is committed to helping those businesses navigate today’s fast-changing environment by focusing on creating an environment of collaboration.
Ahrens has more than 20 years of experience in commercial banking. Most recently, he was senior vice president and market director at Santander Bank. Ahrens earned a bachelor’s degree from Bucknell University and went on to receive his master’s degree from the University of Heidelberg in Germany. Ahrens currently serves on the Board of Directors as Treasurer of Congreso De Latino Unidos in the City of Philadelphia and serves on the Board of the Philadelphia Chapter of American Heart Association. Additionally, he volunteers with Congreso helping in the areas of financial literacy and housing. He resides in Jenkintown, Pa. with his wife and three children.

What is your specialty or area of focus and what qualities do you have that make you good at what you do? I’ve serviced the small- to medium-size company space my entire career and I enjoy learning about family-owned businesses and how new generations are changing the way they do business in a digital age. I like to consult with companies and add value in relationships by helping companies navigate a fast-changing environment like today. I also enjoy leading teams of people and ensuring that we continue to develop and invest in our employees as creating a positive work culture fosters and environment of collaboration and enables the team to flourish and succeed.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with my family and three children all under 5 in Jenkintown, PA. I also like hiking up in Acadia National Park in Maine and skiing out West in Colorado.
