Univest Awards $5,140 to Hope Against Heroin

As Univest continued the celebration of its 140th anniversary, it continued its tradition of giving back to the local community with the fifth annual Caring for Community Giveaway, a promotion awarding $5,140 to a local, nonprofit organization. This year’s winner is Hope Against Heroin, a nonprofit organization with a mission to reduce the number of young lives lost to heroin overdoses by providing timely access to life-saving treatment, increasing awareness and providing education. The organization provides support for individuals and families that are affected so they may overcome the barriers experienced on the journey to long-term recovery. Hope Against Heroin was founded by Kim and Kevin Hogan after personally being affected by heroin addiction. Their son, Jimmy Duffy, has become the face of the organization showing others there is hope for recovery from opiate addiction.

“We are thrilled to have been selected as the winner of Univest’s Caring for Community Giveaway. Heroin use has become a real epidemic in the local suburban area,” said Kim Hogan, president and founder of Hope Against Heroin. “This $5,140 donation will allow us to help those struggling by providing options for treatment and support.”

Nonprofit groups were nominated for the prize by the public through Univest’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Hope Against Heroin was randomly selected from more than 6,400 entries representing more than 100 local nonprofit organizations. Previous winners of the Caring for Community Giveaway were St. Isidore School, Bucks County SPCA, Vets for Vets and The Granny Project.

The contest launched Monday, December 1, 2016 and entries were accepted through December 31, 2016. To be eligible to win the $5,140, the nonprofit group had to be a registered 501 (c) (3) organization that operates in the Greater Philadelphia, Lancaster County or Lehigh Valley areas of Pennsylvania.
